Outreach Ministries

The 27th general chapter of the Society of Mary took place in Rome, Italy in September 2001. One of the statements from “Declaration on the Mission at the Beginning of the 21st Century” is “We (Marists) believe that we are called to be instruments of evangelization in what John Paul II describes in Redemptoris Missio as the “new Areopagi” (Romans 37; Acts 17:22-31), that is the emerging society and mass media of our contemporary and complex global village.” (2001 General Chapter Statements and Decisions, #24)

Pope Paul VI stated in his document Evangelii Nuntiandi (1975), “evangelizing all people constitutes the essential mission of the Church. . . . Evangelizing is in fact the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity. She exists in order to evangelize, that is to say, in order to preach and teach [the Gospel]” (Paul VI, Evangelization in the Modern World [Evangelii Nuntiandi] [EN], no. 14)

Marists provide an evangelization through the US Province publications/communications outreach. This ministry:

  • Fosters a Marian spiritual growth based on the Gospel
  • Explores the Marist Charism in action
  • Inspires the Marist Way of living

A Glimpse of Our Publications/Communications outreach:

The mission of the Lourdes Center is to promote a loving devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes, and to distribute Lourdes Water in North America that is obtained from France. The Lourdes Center also publishes the free monthly newsletter, “Lourdes Echoes“, and coordinates Pilgrimages to Our Lady’s Shrine in Lourdes, France.
